Wine, Exile II, and the OLPC XO in Tech Support

I've learned that remote desktop also resolve these issues. Since the XO is less bulky than my PC this is optimal. When I'm too far away to use remote desktop, wine will suffice. Anyone know if any of the Avernums are wine compatible?

Despite not receiving my XO for several months, it has finally arrived. In fact I am using it to post right now. It's much nicer than I expected it to be. Unfortunately my experience with linux is fairly minimal.

I've installed wine on the machine and downloaded the .exe intaller. However, when I execute wine on it nothing seems to happen. Should I copy the already installed program from my other computer and run wine on the actual game file?

Also, anyone else with an XO?

EDIT: I've solved my problem with Exile II, and now I'm able to play it on the XO. Although now I'm having trouble getting the Linux version of Exile III to run. It installs correctely but when I go to the directory and run ./exile3 it doesn't do anything...

I doubt that any port to systems with such a small screen could get by with just a resolution change. The interfaces would probably need major changes to make everything reasonably visible.

I can't imagine that you actually talk that way.

(I had to look up the definition of 'pomp' before I posted. I, like most people, have never seen or used that word before.)

Apple even appears to offer it's own Development Kit. Although it still seems way too expensive for a phone if you ask me...

The market for Nintendo consoles has widened considerably within the past few years. As far as the old folks go, I don't think they'd be any more willing to play cell-phone games than something on a DS. From my experience they tend to remain very stationary. ;)

File size isn't a problem; it's making sure that the program uses memory efficiently. Converting to the DS would also be easier, since there are free programs which convert C/C++ code into the appropriate format. There was a decent sized community that figured out most of the difficult work relating to homebrew. Though it is dwindling now, projects like DSLinux still live on...

The DS offers a larger display than the Iphone if you include both screens. However, as I mentioned in the other thread, the DS only has 4mb of internal RAM. Even with the best external ram cartridges the max is 36mb. So that system would probably be limited to the Exile Series.

Because console games generally attract a larger crowd than computer games? Unless, of course, the name of your company happens to be Blizzard...

The boat pathing left something to be desired. However, I did find that it made the traveling by water much more entertaining. It brought back found memories of the Exile series where I had to click once for each movement...

The PS3 supports the use of a mouse and a keyboard. I'm not sure about the xbox, but I imagine it does as well. So targeting really wouldn't have to change...

I was under the impression that they didn't stack in A5. In A1-A3, having Unlock Doors at level 3 will unlock almost anything. Tool Use is really only useful for traps, or if you join the Anama. On the side, necromancy is frowned upon...

There were parts that weren't all that exciting. For instance, no matter how many times you clear off the bridge to Dorikas's Fortress, the guards seem to keep respawning. On the otherhand, I really loved the parts where it felt like I was being chased down (i.e. the Howling Depths). Overall it was a great game.

Oh that is the beauty of all these phrases. You can say them to someone you loathe. The rest of the world might see it as a gesture of kindness. But you know it is just a cheap shot...

I can't imagine you'll make too many new friends with that kind of an attitude. Don't read too much into it and just take it as a friendly greeting. It is really annoying when people are nitpicky about that sort of thing. Like when you ask someone if they are alright and they say 'No, I'm half left'...

Isn't it a bit late to ask if I'm leaving? I haven't posted anything since January...

To be honest, I think things really got off to a bad start when Alec never joined in the RP. He was one of the primary members behind resurrecting it, then he just up and vanished...

This RP has been lingering in a state of near-death for a few weeks now. The trouble is people become too invested in their storylines and aren't quite ready to let go. Perhaps it is our fault for trying to resurrect it in the first place...

Ephesos is right. Long posts tend to drive people away from the RP's. I skip over posts I consider to be too long. This isn't an exercise in writing, it is an exercise in creativity. If you can't manage to write something useful in less than a page then you should reconsider your post...
