*points* Look, it's Frahhamn. And regarding the topic: Color edits should be flagged, in a separate category, or removed. Otherwise, they're irritating. -------------------- I've got a pyg in a poke. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I just saw "Elephant", and it might as well have been words on a screen. I kept shouting "COME ON, GUS!!! GET TO THE SHOOTING!!!" I wonder why my girlfriend wouldn't talk to me after. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

Pygmalion graphics are 32x32 tiles. They work essentially like Blades of Exile tiles, except that different directions and movements are stored in different files. (Compiling a Pygmalion scenario also combines a lot of graphics into larger tile sheets for faster loading). BoE graphics work with just a bit of adjustment, but I can't legally use them. Nor do I really want to; enough people have accused me of trying to rip off SW as is. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I can't use any graphics based on Spiderweb Software's graphics; as derivative works, SW still has rights to them. The following generous people have already granted me permission to use their original work: Stareye, The Creator, Brett Bixler, Drakefyre, Jayne. I'm assuming TM has withdrawn his authorization on grounds of hating me. By the way, the base unit for Pygmalion graphics is a 32x32 tile, but I've had lots of success resizing BoE tiles in the past. Thuryl found a fantastic site with lots of cool tiles. [ Friday, November 07, 2003 14:29: Message edited by: Conspiracy Duck ] Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

You've obviously never played a Roguelike on a VT100 terminal. No ANSI color there, no sir! The ambiguity between different sorts of basilisks, etc. can be rather handily resolved with the "Look" command. I like Exile's graphics a lot. I wish SW hadn't downgraded them while making Avernum. Just testing. This is directed towards that guy who had the incomplete RPG and asked us whether he should finish it. Could I borrow your tiles? I'm developing a free RPG engine and I need some nice artwork for a proof-of-concept beta release. I'd credit you nice and prominently. I can't afford to pay you, however, since I am giving this thing away for free. If anyone else has any idea where I can get some good tiles, I'm up for suggestions. I've got a nice collection of terrain textures, but I desperately need character art, items, etc. Also, the tiles I have now have a definite 256-color look to them, although Pygmalion uses 24-bit color. Tiles that match this sort of style are preferred. [ Monday, November 10, 2003 10:23: Message edited by: Conspiracy Duck ] Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

I'd rate plot below graphics. I'd say it's something like: Gameplay = 10 Graphics = 5 Plot = 0 to -1 [ Friday, November 07, 2003 10:59: Message edited by: Conspiracy Duck ] -------------------- You are my precious thing Thing of speed and beauty, You are my precious thing As long as you remain beneath me -- Big Black Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

It's all about gameplay. There's a reason River City Ransom is one of the best games ever, and it isn't graphics or plot. Always been fond of the soundtrack to Quake. Trent Reznor may be a whiny weenie, but he makes great music to frag by. Of course, the best song in any game ever is "Maybe", by the utterly inimitable Ink Spots, which suitably was featured in the introductory movie to the best game of the 1990s, Fallout. *traditional Spots guitar lead* Maybe you'll think of me When you are all alone. Maybe the one who Is waiting for you Will prove untrue, Then what will you do? Maybe You'll sit and and sigh Wishing that I were near Then maybe you'll ask me to come back again, and Maybe I'll say maybe. -------------------- You are my precious thing Thing of speed and beauty, You are my precious thing As long as you remain beneath me -- Big Black Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |

You know what, Mercenary? I know Spiderweb sucks. It sucks hard. And I don't give a damn. It's entertaining enough. What's more, why should the denizens of this board care about how entertaining it is to others? Either it will continue to entertain its members, or it will disappear. Either way, there's no problem. Spiderweb Software will continue on, whether or not these forums are stuffed to the gills or populated by a single juvenile whining about how everything's gone downhill. I know I'm feeding a troll, but hopefully this will get everyone else to just ignore you. Posts: 999 | Registered: Friday, June 27 2003 07:00 |
