If you've not read some sci-fi classics you could try: The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov which is a great read. Also, if you've never read it try Starship Troopers by Heinlein. The movie is based off it but the book is much, much better. For that matter, if you've not read Heinlein before he has many worth a looksee.

It is still hard to recommend as I'm not sure what you've read so I could be naming much that you already have read. More clues perhaps from you?

Felwynne, you are by far too old to respond on such an emotional level. Why don't you join the crew and give us real stories?

I tried earlier but was pretty much ignored....

I will join in later. I was only trying to coach Zephyr a little and trying to get him to listen to advice.

What?! Having bard's skill suddwenly makes my character a god character!?
What makes it a "god character" is the fact that, suddenly, your character has new overpowered skills that were never mentioned in prior posts. This has been explained before.

Make your character and stick with what you said he can do. You can't just pull stuff out of nowhere and expect people to go along with it.

Yeah, sure you did. It does not matter what you claim your stats/skills/items are, it is quite evident that you pull whatever you want out of thin air. This is like RP on Tourettes Syndrome. Just spout off anything that comes to mind.

Yes, I did forget: Amulet of the Gods. I also forgot: Ring of Comprehension and Learning {cursed} (-10 to INT) and the Bracers of Temperment (+10 to bothersome posts)

Maybe Zephyr should try Nethack, at least if you win you can ascend to demi-god. ;)

Flute of Wyrm Enchantment
Bag of holding: To carry whatever he needs to have appear at the time.
Can of spam

Rey's Skills:
Everything available to the max

Rey's Stats:

Spells and magic devices:
Holy Book of Tantrums
Rod of Annoyance

All in the inn hear the noise, the muffled chanting. They step outside and see the Wyrms coming toward the inn. They look...but wait!!

What is on the back of the big one, the one over there. It is a man!

Then the chanting becomes clearer "Muad'Dib, Muad'Dib"

Sorry, couldn't resist the temptation ;)

And be careful or he'll call upon The Tantrum of Wrath! +10 to brattiness

OOC: Do you own any spiderweb games Zephyr? do you know what Wyrm are? You could not kill 4 in a single blow no matter what weapon you have. I wouldn't expect even TM to propose to kill 4 in one hit.

Now, now... his characters can do it all! No job too big. Faster than light travel? No problem! Kill multiple Wyrms with his fists? Hey, any day!

His posts are such a hoot! He is better than Kinghts of the Dinner Table!

Sure looks like a god character! First the sword was 5'2" per his first post. Now it is 5' but adds 6" due to the handle. Must have something to do with viagra I guess.

Gee, he can't punch the wyrms to death? You should have seen it coming when his character class was given as "Tank warrior".

He probably has some pocket nukes and a laser rifle for later. ;)

IC: Suddnely, both of the necromancers come back to life(And tey take their items back.), then rush back to the camp. Evryone hears several loud zaps. The Dark Cult is now on the surface. Now that their goal is done, they will never go to exile again.

Most of your problem with RP is you don't seem to read any other posts that may have shown up since your last. Had you read them you would have certainly seen my somewhat sarcastic post about the gods locking away the spirits of your upstart. This lack of effort has lead to some rather bizarre posts from you. Remember RP means role play not ridiculous post ;)

Read what is going on, have your character act in response, and most of all, and this seems to be the hardest for you--stop making your characters approach invincibility and defy all natural laws (the powergaming nonsense). Remember, not everything goes your way in RL or in RP so roll with it.

The Gods, noting the demise of Si-er, are slightly amused, yet amazed that he lasted as long as he did. They claim his spirit and banish it to the bowels of the earth, locked forever away. They placed countless wards and barriers to seal the spirit in and placed legions to guard it lest he try to escape. ;)

The gods also noticed Ye-er. Unsure of his "life status", but desiring to 'nip trouble in the bud' they smite him with lightning and follow up with a fireball. He is then sucked into the same tomb as his mentor by a massive split in the ground. The rift closes.

The gods are pleased that the two upstart necromancers have achieved their fated destiny. ;)

The gods are pleased with the inn keeper and take pity at the damage caused by the misguided necromancer, and bestow upon him a glittering, bejeweled pool table complete with all acessories.

I was under the impression that OOC meant "Out Of Context" or "Out Of Character".
It does mean "out of character". I was playing on the acronym in hopes of gaining attention BUT it is obvious that Zephyr never reads prior posts so that won't go far.

I agree with the many, if Zephyr is in, I'm not.

This has to be one of the oddest threads I have ever read. Really, follow the entire thread, jot down on paper, who is where and doing what, and you'll find that some are in more than one place at a given time among other oddities. It is like there is a good story developing and then, gee, need I mention who, runs off with some bizarre bits where a small group kills 100's if not thousands of demons in the time it takes the Queen to have her spot of tea.

This is probably the biggest reason I won't try these RP's, which is a shame as I've been playing RPG's since D&D first came out. Maybe there should be a "canned" RP thread for those who wish to only play godlike characters with ever widening powers (necromancy dream?? geez) and one for true RPers.

This was all OOC (Out of Concern).... Don't get me wrong there is some good stuff here but, c'mon Zephyr, get real, and Cement Cube, as they'd say "puh-leeze!"

The door to the inn bursts open from a mighty kick. A large man with many scars carried away from too many battlefields stands in the door way surveying the room. His eyes move from one to the next. He is obviously looking for someone. His eyes settle upon a thin figure in dark robes.

"You! Si-er! I have followed you across many leagues and even down here to the bowels o' the earth and now I've found ye!" He points a thick, calloused finger toward the robed figure who is now cowering in fear, attempting to think of a dark spell to save himself from the death he toys with. "I told ye above, and I'll be tellin' you now here'n below, ye had no cause, nor right, to dig up me Mum and use her for yer sick and twisted ways."

Si-er's mind is racing to remember the event he is accused of. Yes there were times he'd had to dig up those who'd passed on, but, was that not the way? The dark ways demanded this, cried out for this. He'd needed to practice, he had to learn control, and to learn the art of controlling the dead did he not need a body?

"I know not of what you speak", Si-er mumbled, as he edged toward the back door. Cowards live on, he thought to himself.

"Aye, but you do and yerl pay da price", the mighty warrior said with a chilling, vengeful tone. He drew his mighty axe, one that bore the nicks and stains of battle and strode toward the necromancer.....

I've never played Angband or ADOM- can you download them anywhere?

Get ToME (Troubles/Tales of Middle Earth) athe the Thangorodrim site mentioned in an earlier post. It has awesome choice of character races/classes, many quests, and is a blast to play. It is an Angband variant but is one of the most popular of the variants. It can be played in ASCII or with graphics (elementary graphics, ascii is better IMHO). It is available for windows, mac, linux, dos, and others. You can get ToME directly from the ToME site in the downloads section. There is even a dedicated forum on the same site for help and advice. And if you are new to roguelike games ToME even has in game textual helps (you can turn them off if you want) to help you get started. Well worth the download!

It won't reformat. It will just update your windows. You just could not go backwards, like win 95 over 98, but you can put a newer windows over an older one.

Thanks for the advice. I was not sure myself. It was so-so but worth looking at IF you got all of it for $20. But BoE is much better, so guess where my $ will go!

I use 98 SE too. I have xp at work and do not like it. You might want to try that driver, you never know sometimes you get lucky. As for finding 98se try half.com or ebay. I have an original cd and just burn extras. If you have a friend they could do that for you. You just need the key.

I know this is off topic, well, maybe not after all. I read earlier posts referring to Realmz. I went to the site and checked it out. I have sent them 2 emails with no response so I figured I'd ask here. Looks to me like they expect $20 to register the game for which you get the engine and one unlocked scenario. The other scenarios are included but locked and would cost $13 each to unlock. Did I misread this? Is that game THAT good? Not from what I've read so far....any insight? Anyone tried it?

Thanks
John
