How exactly do you make a custom item on the editor. I know how to do it on the blades of exile, but blades of avernum is like totally different in that respect. Like for example how would I customize a steel plate mail?

If your scenario is called lostboys.bas, create a text file called lostboysdata.txt and write this:

begindefineitem 450;
import 42;
And after the import line, you can edit the steel plate mail. I suggest reading section 2.7 of the editor documentation.
