Alas, the Galactic Core forum is no more! Gone is the land of frivolity, gone is the outlet for oddball historians, gone is the barren realm of nonactivity! Weep, ye brothers of the ephemeral postings, WEEP! Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

It hasn't been destroyed. It's gotten some friends(or enemies, or siblings, however you want to think about it)! -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. GC was unable to support itself. Big brother Lost Souls came in to take charge with its other dependent, Ocean Bound, in tow. —Alorael, who took pity on poor, lost GC at the expense of his locked topic collection. Aren't you proud of him? Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Yes. But I'll miss the locked topics as well. Now we truly have no place left to spam on... well except General, but that doesn't really count does it? -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. Bah! This forum by any other name would still possess a lifetime of spam. A different name makes no difference whatsoever, spam will still exist. And to prove it: Spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam, spam. See? Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

I'm terribly sorry, but 'spam' stands for 'short, pointless, annoying, message'. What your message would be is lpam(no, I don't know how to pronounce it either), with the 'l' standing for 'long'. Okay, now you can yell at me for lpam and rate me an evil preist. It just needed to be said. -------------------- Do not underestimate the power of the mechanical pencil. Join the Dark side. Actually, that wasn't that long. Sure, it might be lpam if it was about the size of Alec's sig, but that was still spam, even if only just. And that would be pronounced l'pam in most likelyhood. Posts: 1487 | Registered: Sunday, February 10 2002 08:00 |

The new forms of pointless annoying messages are no longer permitted. -------------------- "Oh, North Wind, why frighten others? In Nature's family all are brothers. Also as spam may be counted various little unrelated historical tidbits that are not fully confirmed anyway. So here goes: The term Spam (or SPAM) is used indiscriminately for all kinds of online information traffic that bears little sense in any way of the word, or is entirely unrelated to the topic it is in response to (or the topic that is normally discussed at the place where it is put). Thus short ad messages on forums (whether mass-produced or not) that have little purpose beyond bringing traffic to a certain site (usually unrelated to the message board itself) are spam, as are advertisement emails sent by the mass, or Instant Messenger ads. 'Spam' can also be used to describe posts on message boards that have little purpose beyond raising traffic on the message board or increasing the member's post count. The origin of the name 'SPAM' has not been verified, but the by far most well-known and plausible theory to date is that it is derived from a brand of canned meat that allegedly shared many properties with today's online spam - ie. lack of taste, gelatinous/rubberlike consistency, etc: Since the acronym Short Pointless Annoying Message has no relation to the canned beef brand, and the latter is verified to actually exist, the former is most likely an Urban Myth. Thus, LPAM is the greatest nonsense I've heard so far. --- Mmmh, is a post about spam in a thread on the same topic actually spam? There would appear to be some sort of a paradox here... Yes, Wise Man brought up an interesting point. Spam does not need to contain any actual content, senseless or not. Just a totally empty missive qualifies as well. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair.
