ok note to all of you that burn cds DO NOT get any blank cds by sony or the small company they bought called bmg or put any sony/bmg cds in the cd rom:They install a little worm that when you burn a cd it reports what it was that you burned to sony ,and if you try burning a second time you cant.If you try to delete it in its well hidden hiding place then ,the most common results have been deleted drivers to the cd rom and burner and in some cases wrecking the computer so it doesnt work anymore no matter what you do. The story is legit, but the original poster is a little hazy on the details. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005_Sony_CD_copy_protection_controversy The problem isn't with blank CDs but with certain music CDs. Sony's currently discontinued use of the controversial copy protection method and issued a recall on all CDs which use it, due to widespread opposition. I mean, when even Microsoft is calling it malware, you know it's pretty bad. the story i heard is when you popped in a sony cd it instantly installed the malware or worm whatever you want to call it and the state of Texas sued sony for this i believe along with the states of California New York and even Italy are starting to get involved [ Wednesday, December 14, 2005 14:49: Message edited by: The Forgotten ] -------------------- George Bush is a Nazi - Eric Cartmen I'm not as think you stoned I am Visit the RIFQ Forums Posts: 462 | Registered: Tuesday, June 21 2005 07:00 |

The state of Texas has indeed filed a lawsuit. In California and New York, lawsuits have been filed against Sony, but they're class action lawsuits rather than lawsuits brought by the state itself. Read the Wikipedia article in my above post for more information. Oh, and... quote:So there you go. If your local music store is still selling any of the recalled CDs (or you've already bought some), that's how you can identify them. You should be able to return them to Sony and receive a non-XCP disc in exchange.
