How did Emperor Tullegolar get banned?

An admin opened up the Admin Control Panel, selected the Ban User option and typed in his member number. But that's not what you're asking.

Recent incidents in RWG may have had something to do with it.

Oh. I guess I better watch what I say and make sure not to post pictures. Wouldn't want to be cast into Exile.

Well, the amount of stuff you have to do to get banned around here seems to vary from person to person. If you somehow build up a good reputation, they might let some stuff(within reason) slide. Or if you're overly opinionated like me, then you get one slip up before being banned(hell, some don't even get that much). From what I hear(since I've never actually been banned before), some people actually get to come back, while others(such as the infamous TM), don't

Do keep in mind that that was the third or fourth topic he spammed up with a series of those images after being warned to stop.

This is why the forum should be deleted now instead of keeping it around. Really, whether or not that forum had any purpose in the 'good ol' days' is debatable, but it clearly isn't serving any now.

I'm not at all surprised. He'd been pushing it by reposting that picture for weeks, and then posting it six times per post five more times apparently broke the proverbial camel's back.

In fact, alert users will note several new bannings.

Nija/Galdoh the Annoying has been banned, thankfully. Not that I mean that in a bad way, but he was getting on my nerves. Emperor Tullegolar, anyone else? By the way, which bans are permanent and which isn't?

In another forum I frequent, it is a violation of the rules to talk about folks that had been banned. Something to do with them not being able to defend themselves or respond to comments. While it is certainly strange, the purpose of that forum is such that more offline conversations happen than online. In certain cases it might be nice to have the "ban self" ability, otherwise it just appears as "cop-assisted suicide," and someone has to clean the mess.

None of the bans are permanent. They're just there to remind people that it's worth paying attention to warnings from moderators and administrators. Pretty much everybody who just got banned was in open defiance of at least one (and usually many more) warning.

People get a little more leeway when they do useful things for the community and a little less when they're nothing but trolls. But it's not all that different; breaking the rules will catch up to you eventually, no matter who you are.

ET's ban probably isn't permanent. . . But he deserves at least two weeks. Not that Nalyd has any say in the matter.

Galdoh. . . Probably not more than a week. But you never know.

D Pliss should be perma-banned. But that's just Nalyd's hatred of RuneScape talking. His rationality says no more than a month.

Nalyd is probably horribly wrong, again, but whatever.

I doubt that I am breaching moderatorial confidentiality by revealing that the banning periods are two weeks and under.

None of these people are exceptional morons (*cough*) and it is unlikely any of them will circumvent their ban and thus extend it to lifetime.

So we'll see them back very, very soon.

We can still see the exact durations in the "Todays Active Posts" menu.

At least, we could, until Nalyd posted.

Emperor Tullegolar had it coming. He's posted quite a few offensive comments, and I'm glad he's being disciplined.

I liked Tullegolar, honestly. Sure, he could be a moron, but he provided a bit of comedic relief.

He was the closest to Nalyd's ethical views about Geneforge. He was wrong, though.

Still, he reminded Nalyd of Cartman.

The comment that got TM banned was actually pretty tame by his standards. Unfortunately, there were at least two factors working against him. Firstly, he had something of a history of making trouble. Secondly, Jeff Vogel saw it.

For that matter, the quoted statement above is a little misleading. TM had been banned and allowed to come back repeatedly before he was permanently banned. That's usually how it goes, a temporary ban first and then a permanent one.
