I know this is a rather immodest thing to do, starting a new topic as my second post ever, but I'm not nearly as much of a newbie as it appears. My question is, what are the demographics of the Spiderweb client population? Jeff Vogel himself has said, hrm, let me dig up the quote... "For all I know, my games only ever sell to septugenerian eskimos" (in an interview, http://www.indiegamer.com/features/aug/spiderweb.htm). This suggests to me that no one has any clue what sort of population is out there reading these boards, and after reading topics like, "is english a first language??" and "What Kinds of Girls do you Like?", it occurs to me that it might be interesting to know demographic information about people. And yes, we could all just read each others' profiles, but they don't contain all this information. I figure that giving out all this personal information is not a big deal because we're all using pseudonyms anyway -- even my "real name" is still a pseudonym -- and none of this is, say, address, phone number, etc. So, here are the questions (answer as many as you're comfortable with): Age Gender Sexual orientation Marital status Highest educational degree completed City/metropolitan area where you live Racial/ethnic origin Nationality First/primary language Religion How long you've been a Spiderwebber Whether or not you're a septuagenarian eskimo As a show of good faith, I'll start. Age: 18 Gender: Male Sexual orientation: heterosexual Marital status: single Highest educational degree completed: uh, so far? High school diploma, but I'm a college student City/metropolitan area where you live: San Francisco Bay Area, California, United States Racial/ethnic origin: mostly European-American/white Nationality: American First/primary language: English Religion: quasi-atheist How long you've been a Spiderwebber: um, hmm, jeez. Let me remember. Since a few months before the release of Avernum 2, so that would mean... uh... sometime in mid-2000, I think. Whether or not you're a septuagenarian eskimo: No, but I envy anyone who is and is also a Spiderwebber and therefore got such personal acknowledgement from Mr. Vogel himself. Others? and heh, I did this without noticing Robin's "Board Member Info (a Science Experiment)," but thankfully the questions are in some cases different. My survey is shorter. And besides, it would be fun to know this information about specific people -- so we could at least use the correct gendered pronouns to refer to people, for example. And also, reading more, I don't have a political question, which might keep this topic pure for slightly longer. Actually, census topics come up regularly. I'd fill this one out, but I'm too lazy and it lacks amusing questions for me to pretend to be witty with. —Alorael, who can say one thing. He's not a septuagenarian eskimo, although he's only 16 years shy of that illustrious age and he does live in Alaska. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

Ah... the memories... 12 - It drops below 0 often enough here, but not frequently enough to justify that title. -------------------- Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." - Soviet infantry manual, 1930's Posts: 267 | Registered: Wednesday, November 27 2002 08:00 |

God, we really are all teenage males, aren't we? Aside from occasional twenty-something females, of which there seem to be about two or three regular posters. I was hoping to find out that we had a surprisingly large number of, say, forty-plus-year-old Japanese lesbians or something, but no. Posts: 7968 | Registered: Saturday, February 28 2004 08:00 |

Ahem. According to Merriam-Webster Online, septagenarian is not a word, but septuagenarian is. http://www.merriam-webster.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=septagenarian&x=0&y=0 Microsoft Word spellcheck agrees. EDIT: Although I admit this makes no sense, because the Greek root is in fact "septa." And don't feel bad, Dead Sexy Wise Man; the interviewer mispelled the word, too. EDIT 2: And I'm very happy that DSWA figured out the proper abbreviation of my name, which is Kel.
