based entirely on and only on screenshots IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards continue development___files/smile.gif)

do you guys think I should continue to develop (or rather update would be more appropriate). My old RPG.. I ask here cause well, most of you are RPG fans.. so why not..

you can view some old screenshots of my game here .

I got it to a point of being around 65-70% finished.. but it was learning experience.. and thus I kept re-writing it... eventually destroying any motivation I had to work on it.. but I have recently wanted to go back and update it for OS X and use more advanced technology, like OpenGL, CoreAudio etc... that comes with OS X..

thoughts? look cool? or should I crawl back to that hole I used to live in IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards continue development___files/wink.gif)

I say release it, and if you can't be bothered, release the source.

I agree. If it's in a vaguely usable version, certainly upload it. You may find the programming more interesting with others playing it, and even that more inspiration comes from hearing others' comments. Certainly it looks very good from the screenshots!

I had always planned on porting it to PC and if I use OpenGL as the graphics system.. then it will be much easier...

I think after this semester of school finishes I will begin work on it.

Where'd you get the tiles? They're pretty nice.

It does look very nice. If you do end up updating this for OSX, please try to also release your old version, or retool it if you wish, for us OS9 and earlier folks.

All the tiles I made on my own, well a few are from some free sets, but even those I went and did some pixel editing to make everything fit properly..

And if I were to do an OS X I would definately see what I could about an OS 9 version.. if there is any interest for one..

as it stands right now, I would like to concentrate all my development on OS X since there are a lot of things in OS 9 I would have to write by hand...

and OS 9 users would net get OpenGL graphics.

Right now I have a fairly complete build for OS 9, I mean there are a alot of bug fixes and things that do not work, but I can work from that and make something out of it.

OpenGL allows me to a lot of things with the game in the future, allows me to support 3D models easier and will have better performance, and scaleable resolutions.

But I shall what I can do.

If you would like to try out a build of the old OS 9 version please email at: muffinking@rogers.com and I can send you a build.

Hank-

PS: the only tiles that are not mine are from the only OS X screenshot.. I riped them from another game for testing purposes only too see how they would look.

If you want to make porting even easier, you might want to go with SDL instead. It's already been ported to quite a number of systems, so for the most part your code should be portable without many changes. It handles video, audio, events, etc. And you can use OpenGL with it.

I'm curious if by 70% finished you mean whether the engine is nearly
finished, or the game data is nearly finished, or both.
I believe what you're writing has potential. In my experience 95% of all
game designers on the internet are just plain bad and this game certainly
is not. It looks pretty good and you seem to know what you're doing and
have put a lot of work in there.
However the game could be improved by adding a class or two, three, and some
wizard spells that aren't just variations on a damaging theme.
