I'm pretty sure if it could run the Avernum or Exile games, it had the force-quit option. I didn't know about it either, though, for a long time. Plus when I did know about it, I could never remember the key combo.

For something as complex as what we perceive as "reality", it would take a lot of computing power. Plus it would take a complete understanding of virtually every law of science. That is, it wouldn't just be your average BoA scenario building on the weekend. You'd need not only a lot of manpower, but also all-encompassing expertise. In short the whole programming team would need to know everything about the universe they live in before designing one of their own.

Regarding the original discussion… can you imagine the shock if you found out that you were just a component of someone's computer game? That'd be like coming to the realization that you're actually just a figment of someone's imagination, in their dream. Then as soon as they wake up, you're just gone.

Do you feel insignificant yet? :P

Yes, hence chaos.

At my school, there isn't even an evacuation plan that I'm aware of. Nor is there a lockdown plan. My campus (really just a center) is too small for it to make much of a difference. It's also located right next to an outdoor mall. I'm sure that would have some kind of impact on the danger situation.

I support the Blades Forge idea too. Heck, maybe when I'm less busy I'll even have time to play/review some scenarios.

I'd be for doing it at Shadow Vale too (again, Tyran's site, Tyran's choice), but most of what we've seen there lately is spambots anyway. I hate to say it, but it might not be around much longer either.

Okay, I support that thinking. It might not have anything to do with the original meaning behind the gimmick, but it certainly applies here. Having looked at some of the threads just now, people really need to take stuff said here with a grain of salt. Picking one's battles, you know?

Then of course there's the whole "lost in translation" thing that's so common over the 'net…

First off, welcome to Spiderweb. Leave your sanity at the door.

Second, it might depend on what games you're trying to play. Some of the old Spiderweb games (BoE) have gone open-source, and I believe they'll run on the newer Macs (admittedly I haven't tried it yet). Some of them have been updated by Jeff Vogel, so they will run on the newer ones. Leopard I'm not sure of, and on Tiger it's not remarkably smooth. I'd say best bet is to play them on an older machine, or to get the Classic environment running on your new one somehow. There are people here who know how to do that, I think.

Yeah, bizarre thing about this. They actually sent me more stuff after I was already in college than they did when I was a senior in high school. But I think they mixed up my graduation year, because people were also sending me senior portrait and SAT stuff when I was a freshman in college.

Seconded. I guarantee this will never happen. I get the impression that's just not how Shareware works. Besides, it's already not very common to see these games get updated on the operating systems they're already on. Let alone ever seeing them on a PSP or DS.

Although… having BoA stuff on a device more portable than my laptop would be amazing. Imagine being able to design scenarios during a break at work… that'd be pretty sweet.

Uhh… released a couple of months ago, for those who aren't in the know about this sort of thing.

You can download it here:
http://blades.ermarian.net/scenarios

Adversely, if that doesn't work, you can download it here:
http://www.freewebs.com/nemesis42888/scenarios.htm

Available for Mac and Windows. Huzzah.

(Yeah, 'ventually I'll send it in to the SW scenarios page. But just now… I'm too lazy.)

(EDIT, by Ephesos: Enthusiasm, Nem! You finished a scenario!)

Favorite game genres? in General

Hmmm… favorite genres?

Well, I think RPG goes without saying, but I'm gonna say it anyway. With more detail than is necessary.
-D&D is awesome, no matter what anyone says
-Final Fantasy > all y'all
-Star Ocean 3 is fun, although infuriating
-Taskmaker is just plain addicting
-Mantra… very Zelda-esque, kinda short, but fun
-Realmz was a cool pastime, for a while, until…
-The Avernum games, which rock

Let's see… puzzle solving games are fun, even though I've never been much good at them. To name a few:
-Myst
-Lighthouse
-Inherit the Earth
-Space Quest 6
-Museum Madness

I kind of suck at combat and arcade games, but I'll play some here and there. MK: Armageddon is pretty cool, as is Soul Calibur 3.

I don't really like FPS's, and I suck at them. But I'll play Halo 1 or 2 if a bunch of other people are playing. I make good battle fodder.

Oh yeah, Andra: I played Dinopark Tycoon. At least until the demo expired, which is about a season. I was disappointed I couldn't go on, but not enough to actually buy it.

EDIT: Oh! Escape Velocity and successors are fun too. And has anyone else played Bolo?

EDIT2: Grammatical blah…

This is the exact opposite of the Avernum/Geneforge level-up metholodology, where you tend to use a handful of skills and get diminishing returns on them.
That's very true. The JP system in FFT was pretty ingenious, in that, not only was there a skill which doubled your JP gain, but as you gained job levels, you got more and more JP. Plus there was the spillover JP… *rant rant rant*

Eh. You just gotta have a method. And a crapload of time and patience on your hands.

Level grinding isn't necessary by any means, but for some reason I've had all my characters at level 99 by the time I finished every game, except the last one (wanted to try something new :P ).

Oh. And Calculators can cause the battles to take about 15-20 seconds, if you do it right.

I seem to recall having this same question for Kel a while back (though I doubt he remembers). Actually, it was really more of a suggestion for the battle arena in the HLPM. I don't recall what he said about it, but I was kind of curious as to why Jeff didn't include the feature into BoA, as he used it in the prior Avernum games.

Kind of a bummer, too. I could make good use of that for at least one or two of my scenario ideas.

Anyway, the best games are those in which you could go either way. I have to be honest, I don't mind level grinding. But I'm also a freak…

Prime example is one of my favorite games of all time, Final Fantasy Tactics. While it's easy enough to beat the game without leveling up at all, there are some features that can only be explored by training until you're grossly overleveled (that's mainly Calculators, for those of you who have played it).

Bear in mind, playing this game until five or more party members are level 99 and all of their job classes are mastered has pretty much forced me to have a sick amount of patience for such things. WARNING: DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME!
