I disagree. When was the last time a major motion picture even had a non-white main protagonist? The answer: never. You don't think directors take this into account when doing casting?

It does depict them as morally superior. How was that not clear? They have slaves, they force themselves on women, they kill for fun, and they have no regard for human life. The caucasians had a sense of honor, fraternity, and justice. You seem to be confusing this movie with history. Yes, historically they were indeed superior to the caucasians. Why then did the writers feel it necessary to depict the caucasians as morally superior? Because it's racist, that's why. It's not that I'm viewing it through a lens of our current era, but that it was written through such a lens. The evidence is clear, the movie played on our own ethnocentricity to make the heros seem more legitimate, and you fell for it. For you to pass over this facet completely makes you worse than LT, who at least picked a side.

It matters not. The movie implied that caucasians had the superior sense of morality. Same with 300. Superior technology or no, arabs always end up as the evil savages. I'm sorry you are a jaded mainstream media consumer who thinks its not important to point things like this out anymore.

The Ultimate Faction Survey Poll in Geneforge Series

Once again, the numbers show the inherent cowardice of Spiderweb members. There is always a large number of people who support the Awakened, yet, when the Awakened are taken out of the equation, many turn to the Shapers. This shows that most people support creation rights, but when it comes down to actually fighting for what you believe in, they are afraid to go the extra mile, and instead choose to flee back to the conservative side rather than take a chance with the Rebellion.

Me? I choose neither. I choose myself. I choose the Barzites (or Tullegolites). I can't wait for a faction like theirs to return in Geneforge 5. It is the birthright of humanity to use shaping to its full extent. Restrictions are foolish, especially in this time of total war. I will not bow before creations either. I would sooner turn to the Shapers before serving soulless drakon scum.

Seriously though, I don't. Whenever I make long term plans, things go wrong and I end up angry. So no, no plans. But I am Tullegolar, things have a way of working out for me in the end, always. Trust your Emperor.

Edit: To answer your question about Scheissdorf, I have no idea where it is, and it doesn't really matter. Let's just say my character has been wandering for a while, and he'll stumble into the main plot in my next post.

It was good to see this movie was almost as historically inaccurate as it's predecessor, One Million B.C. The main part I didn't like was how the protagonist's girl was miss perfect blue-eyed white girl, and the bad guys were the evil, bearded, towel-headed Arabs who kill people for fun. It was worse than 300 as far as racial undertones go. And, at the risk of sounding cliche, I was sad to see the ten foot tall emperor of the world get taken down so easily.

The Great Warrior of Scheissdorf had been killed. The Wise Witch said he was called away by the Nether Spirits, who took from him control of his legs, causing him to fall off the cliff over the hunting grounds. A grand funeral was held in the center of Scheissdorf, and the entire population (thirty-seven people) was there. The Food Spirits had been angry that year as well, and the people were hungry. So the old Great Warrior was butchered and enjoyed by his former kinsmen. He was delicious. Now, a new Great Warrior would have to be chosen to carry his Club.

The ornamented Club was placed on the top of the very cliff the old Great Warrior had fallen from. As the Law Spirits ordained long ago, whomever was able to simply take the Club would be the new Great Warrior. Talbot intended to take this opportunity, despite the dangers of the Trial. If he became Great Warrior, he would have his pick of any female in all of Scheissdorf! So the Trial began.

The best young men in Scheissdoft were all there, a dozen in all. At the Wise Witch’s call, they began their ascent of the cliff. Only one could reach the top first, and so each man did all he could to keep the others from reaching the goal. Talbot kicked the man below him in the face, and he fell far. Soon enough, only one man was further up the cliff than Talbot, his friend Philo. Glory was at stake here, however, so Philo stomped as hard as he could on Talbot’s hand, causing him to lose his grip. Talbot forgave his friend, regained his balance, grabbed Philo’s foot with his good hand, and pulled. Philo fell as well, even farther than the first man. Talbot reached the Club first, and the others were quickly beat into submission, gently, leaving only a few bruises and broken bones. Talbot was now the Great Warrior. Three had been killed in the Trial, and while they did not taste as good as the old Great Warrior (being failures) the village dined well that night.

Talbot’s glee would be short lived, however, for all was not well in Scheissdorf. The Wise Witch called a meeting, for the Great Spirits had come to her. The land cried out in pain, the sea moaned, and the sky choked. The duty fell to the Great Warrior to find a solution. He would have to travel to the lands where people spoke strange words and wore funny clothing, built houses out of rocks and lived with beasts. Perhaps they would be able to help him to cure the land. Talbot grunted in disappointment, the females would have to wait.

All of Scheissdorf gathered again to see him off. The Wise Witch gave him the village’s entire fortune: five shining rocks. He was also given meat and water that was almost clean to sustain him as he crossed the Lush Wasteland. With these things and his mighty Club, he set out North to cure the Spirits of the world.

I don't think I've ever given anything by Jeff lower than an eight, making this my least favorite Spiderweb game. I suppose I blame the weak main villain, Dorikas. The fact that you were chasing him yet he and his minions were painfully absent from most of the game hurt the plot in my opinion. There is supposed to be more of an emphasis on exploration, yet the entire 'frontier' already has fully staffed towns and firmly entrenched governments. I guess I just don't get what Jeff was going for in this one... was this game just a big set up for Avernum 6?

Starcraft II, Fallout 3 and Geneforge 5 all coming out at the same time? I am so going to flunk out of school.

Geneforge 2 was my favorite mostly because of the variety of factions. I have high hopes.

Edit: This kind of reminds me of my favorite Mortal Kombat game, Mortal Kombat: Trilogy, where they just included every fighter, move, and arena from every previous game. It was awesome. Geneforge 5 looks awesome for the same reasons.

I think the only thing that Goldenking did that was overboard was the disease, but I didn't like Nioca's potion either. With those two things, your both still even in my eyes. Come on Goldenking, your faction is too powerful for you to leave now. There is no rush to post or anything, I have no problem with a few days of inactivity now and then. Just as long as you come back eventually. I'll acquire a necromancy book for you if your do (totally legit).

Valorim
Avernum

Wow, Goldenking leaves just as he achieves the biggest victory so far in the RP? He must have something pretty important going on elsewhere. Anyway, Nikki is still officially in Delan, pending evacuation to wherever. I recommend Footracer. I'll keep the Anama and the Hunters on the map until someone makes a move for their territory. Other than that, the Lady has arrived. It's on.

There would likely not be a Spiderweb Software without this man. Either that or Avernum would be a RTS and Geneforge a FPS... which probably wouldn't be as cool as it sounds. Were it not for me stealing a first edition copy of the Monster Manuel from my uncle when I was five, I might not be the magnificent Emperor before you today. The Tullegolite flag shall be flown at half mast in his honor.

It's up. That's right, I introduced more characters. If I'm gonna be moving to the surface, I'll need some people who know their way around, yes?

To make up for it, I'll update the maps later today or tomorrow. I know there's a sort of stigma on these boards when it comes to promising things like that, but has Tullegolar ever let you down?

Fort Avernum

Acrio Sulfi stood and admired his work, “Normally a new portal would require months of calibration and testing before we could use it, but since this portal is merely being reopened, it should lead back wherever to it did originally.”

Angelo smiled and folded his arms, “Excellent. And it’s been open since this morning, you say? Why didn’t we send someone through sooner? I’ll sned Sss-Kai to scout things out immediately!” Angelo signaled to the slith.

Sss-Kai looked to the Lady, who nodded. He gulped and advanced towards the portal with a small group of guards, only to be stopped by Acrio Sulfi. “Wait! You can’t just send people through! If those on the other side sent someone through at the exact same time, well… best case scenario: things get really messy, worst case: crater.”

Sss-Kai was annoyed, “Great, ssso what, then? Do we just wait a few minutesss and throw someone through?”

Acrio shook his head, “No! That’s a terrible idea!”

Suddenly, the portal grew brighter. After hundreds of years of inactivity, someone was coming through. The guards around the Lady readied their weapons. A single figure stepped through, followed by another. The first was a man wearing a thick brown coat, wielding nothing more than a bow with an arrow already cocked. The second was a female mage, staff at the ready. Angelo spoke first, “Identify yourselves!”

The man in the brown coat aimed his bow at Angelo, but lowered it once he saw the Lady. “Well, this is a surprise. Might that be the symbol of the Empire I spy on your headdress, ma’am?”

With a wave of her hand, the Lady’s guards sheathed their weapons. “Twas gifted me by sons of order old. Who be thy to here infringe so bold?”

The man nodded, “Yeah, you’re the real deal, alright. An Imperial greets me upon my arrival to Avernum, as if things haven been strange enough lately. I am called Prussian. This is my colleague, she’s the one that helped open the portal from our side.” Prussian looked to his mage, “See, I told you we only had to wait a few minutes before going through.” Acrio Sulfi shook his head. Sss-Kai folded his arms and smirked at the Arch-Mage. Prussian continued, “So, care to explain what’s going on here?” Angelo and the Lady escorted their new guests into the main building of the fort, and they were soon seated at the Lady’s grand table.

Angelo began, “Tell us, where does fine our portal lead? Surely you know now that you now sit in Fort Avernum, but do tell us which part of the Empire we now have access to!”

Prussian got a sly look on his face. He scanned across the table, sizing up the Lady and her servants, “Pralgrad, right in the heart of the Empire. I command a large force there, they are totally loyal to me and only me.” Prussian’s battlemage looked to him warily.

Angelo clasped his hand together, “Wonderful! You can begin to send us troops then, to reinforce us! We’ll need supplies as well. You’re not of noble blood, are you?”

“Can’t say I am.”

“Ah. Well then, in return for your aid, the Lady will grant you legitimacy. She is a full blooded Imperial noble, you see. Fear not, you will remain in command of your forces, naturally. You only need fly her banner from your walls. Once we have built up a large enough reserve of-“

“Woah, woah. Hold on just one minute.” Prussian whispered something to his battlemage, she whispered back to him. Prussian looked to Angelo, “I’m not sure this is going to work out. My people on the surface will be hesitant to work with Avernum. You understand. I’ll have to speak with them about all this before we can negotiate further.”

Angelo frowned, “What a pity. Wine, please, for our guests.” Servants dispatched to get the wine, “I had hoped things would go a bit smoother than this. Your hesitation disappoints me greatly.” The wine arrived. Angelo took one goblet from the tray and the other was given to Prussian. “To the Empire, then, my friend.”

Prussian gulped down the wine, almost a little disappointed to discover that it was imported from the surface rather than domestic Avernum stuff. He had never tried that before. Angelo looked nervous when Prussian looked back at him. “Problem?”

Angelo gulped, “I thought it was a tradition in Pralgrad to switch goblets before drinking.”

“And?” The battlemage looked to Prussian, alarmed. “Er, I mean… I don’t usually stand on ceremony.” Prussian looked around and noticed everyone in the room looked a bit nervous. He also noticed Angelo still had a full goblet of wine, “Why didn’t you drink yours?”

Angelo looked to his mother, who was now frowning as well. “Uh…”

Prussian stood up with such speed his chair was thrown from under him. In less than a second, his bow was out and his arrow cocked once again, pointed at the Lady this time, “You were trying to poison me! Treacherous snakes!”

Everyone else but the Lady was now on their feet, weapons drawn. Despite the general panic, the Lady remained calm, and spoke to Prussian in a soothing voice, “Twas thou that first deceived thine new back-friends, and liest to us from whence thou hast depart. Come clean afore our fair cross comes to blood, else questing here hath all hence been for naught.”

Prussian took a moment to digest the Lady’s words. “Valorim… I’m from Valorim. The island to the south of Gale. It answers to me, but we have little contact with the mainland.” He lowered his weapon. Everyone else followed suit.

The Lady smiled. Now that island would answer to her.

It's not his whining that pisses me off, I've learned to live with it and I would have continued making long posts regardless of what he thinks. What pissed me off was that he is now attacking me personally when all I tried to do was keep the RP going. And he'll get away with it too, because the bastards in power look out for their own before they look out for other members. The worst part is that Ephesos was kind of cool before he became a churlish, self-important moderator prick.

And no, I'm not trying to take over the boards, Ephesos, nor do I hate people simply for being mods or for being here longer than me. I think someone is taking Dikiyoba's stories a bit too seriously, yes?

Edit: Nikki, isn't there a summary thread just for the people you described? It doesn't even seems like Ephesos was attacking post length anymore, but changed his argument to simply insult Nioca's writing style, which is a completely uncalled for attack. The guy is being unreasonable, and it makes me think he is having personal problems or something for him to undergo such a change in character.
